The 2003-2004 Season
“You've gotta believe!” After being picked to finish out of the top three teams in the Inter-Ac, the girls’ varsity basketball team capped an outstanding year with a trip to the inaugural Inter-Ac post-season championship game. Battling the Germantown Academy team to a standstill well into the fourth quarter, the girls nearly upset the sixth-rated team in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Ably led by captains Lauren Bobzin and Kelly Sutter, the team posted a 17-6 record against a schedule that included victories against top teams from the Catholic League Northern Division, Central League, and Friends League, as well as leading independents like the Hill School and perennial Inter-Ac powers Penn Charter and Notre Dame.

In addition to winning more league games than any team in girls’ basketball history, the senior class of Bobzin, Sutter, Alison Murray, Ashley Heist, and Frances Fox led EA to victory at Notre Dame for the first time in school history, then helped defeat Notre Dame again two days later in the first round of the Inter-Ac tournament. Juniors Lizzy Waples, Kerri Hadden, AnneMarie Person, Andrea Vukovic, Jenny Soowal, and Franzi Hopf lead a returning squad that hopes to build on the foundation set by this year’s outstanding senior class. Assisted by sophomore Kaitlyn Fallon and freshmen Kellie Mooney, Ashley Aruffo, and Callye Komlo, they hope to mount a major challenge in the race for Episcopal’s first Inter-Ac title. AND next year’s slogan: “It takes extra effort to be a champion.”
